WD2002FAEX WD 2TB Caviar Black 6 gb/s

Are the WD2002FAEX hard drives backwards compatible with 3 gb/s controllers? In other words can these drives that are rated at 6 gb/s be used in computers that only support data transfer speeds up to 3 gb/s - specifically an intel MacPro, model 3.1 ?

Hi there, according to specifications for that drive, you can make it work as a SATA II (3 Gb/s) if you set a jumper on pins 5 and 6.

Hope it helps!

It also seems that the SATA III 6.0 GB/s is backwards compatible directly to SATA II 3.0 GB/s, without the need of a jumper setting.
