WD1002FAEX slow transfer rates

Hi to you!

I’m using this drive (WD1002FAEX- 00Z73A) on X79 chipset and IRST up to date on SATA 3 port and with HDtune Pro 5.50 I’m getting:

an average of 98 MB/S…  14ms access time

I have another Seagate Barracuda 2TB on a SATA 2 port and I’m getting an average of 165MB/S… 14.2ms acess time…

I tried to swap the drives, tried the WD on a Marvell, alone on a SATA 2 port and I always got the same speeds…

Idem for the Seagate…

So as I’ve done some research and my WD black should deliver better performances than that!

Is my WD is running as designed, a Seagate are just faster, if it is the case I will surely never buy another WD black as it costs more that it worth…

Or I really have a broblem with that drive…

So if I could get some light on it…

Hello, check if you have a jumper on pins 5 and 6, if you have one, it will lower the transfer speed to 1.5 Gb/s.

I don’t have anyu jumpers…

And I tried another cable and another port (SATA1)…

And can you give me the ratede tranfers speed for the drive?

Anyone who can explain me why I have such slower rates?

I’m wondering whether the WD drive may have 3 platters.

Could we see the actual benchmark graphs?

Could you run a short stroked version of the same benchmark, say 3GB and 1GB? This may tell us how many heads your drive has.

How to determine number of heads using HD Tune:

BTW, your Seagate drive could have either 2 or 3 platters. The first 3 characters of its serial number will tell us which one you have. The 2-platter version is significantly faster.
