WD1001FALS deep thump on seek

I have a Caviar Black 1TB WD1001FALS. Not too long ago, I started noticing a deep thumping seek noise when the disk was seeking. The thumping is in tune with the normal high pitch seek thrashing that I’m used to hearing from most HDDs.

I’m not sure if that’s normal for an aging drive to get louder or something else.

This is a similar sound to the WD640AALS that I bought not too long ago. It was making the same seek noises since I first bought it.

Neither exibit any SMART failures whatsoever. No bad sectors, no read/write errors. Only a farily long up time and power on/off count.

I guess no one knows what I’m talking about. Time to contact WDC support directly.
