WD1001FALS Correctable & Uncorrectable Sector Counts

I decided to check on my drives just now with SpeedFan, and discovered that there are Correctable and Uncorrectable Sector reports with a red icon. Both HDTune and WD Diagnostics shows the drive with a “Good” status.

WD’s warranty check shows my drive has 2 years left.

HDTune has these values:

HD Tune: WDC WD1001FALS-00J7B Health

According to Diagnostic tools, the warranty does not cover these values. Only Spin Up, Reallocated Sectors & Raw Read Error Rate.

With WD Diagnostics, the drive fails the quick test.

Status Code = 07 (Failed Read Test Element), Failure Checkpoint = 97 (Unknown Test)

Where did you get that the warranty will not cover those values?

That’s not true

go to WD’s web and replace the drive

@Wizer, I believe Xaionik was referring to the “Warranty” column in the Data LifeGuard report. AIUI, a tick in this column indicates that a failure in the corresponding attribute is “warranty-able”.

That said, I agree that Tech Support may grant an RMA in this particular case on the basis of those other bad attributes, or on the basis of the “Failed Read Test Element” error.

I sent a request at the WD support site, but they have yet to respond.

Seems like the life of these drives get worse every generation. I had 2 Gen 1 SATAs die in 7 years. This one is dying in 3.
