WD World Book - Software Advice Needed

Hi

I have purchased a new WD world edition. I have some questions.

  1. Is the software that comes as standard for backup and remote access good? What are the open source or free alternatives to it that I can install and run. Is the installation easy?

  2. I am planning to buy a powerline adaptor to stream movies from my WD to my Sony Bravia LCD. What is the best software to use to do so.

Any help would be appreciated.

as far as the answer to #2:

This WD device didnt work for me on my linksys powerline. It does, however, work plugged directly to my router and my Sony Tv can see music and certain movie files like .wmv that are supported by tv through twonky and dlna.
