My wd tv live plus p/n xxxxxNBK-02 is giving me problems and is getting worse over time. First it was minor stuff, such as hanging up when it had been sitting unused for a period. Now it is hanging up frequently, requiring me to unplug it to get it to start. Also, while it notices the HDD dock it will not comple the library. It has also started hanging up when playing netflix stream.
I have 2 WDTV Live boxes running 2.02.32 firmware, they constanly freeze during playback, when in standby or just refuse to start using the IR remote. The only way to get them back in the game is a complete powerdown which will revive them for an indeterminate period of time after which they freeze again. Trying to check for SW upgrade brings back an ERROR saying
The device fails to check for new firmware update
with the usual excuse it must be your network connection thats at fault…
nothing wrong with network the box strams content flawlessly (when not freezing).
I have had two wdtv boxes, a wdtv and wdtv live, on my home network, running without fault, for months. Now, suddenly, one at least seems to be more or less kaput. They are connected, via a gigabit switch, to a Synology DiskStation NAS box and a sky hub router, and, as I say, have been trouble-free for months. Now, playback stutters, freezes, or fails completely after 10 or 20 minutes on one, and perhaps an hour on the other. The NAS box has always had a static IP address, and the wdtv’s were using dhcp from the sky hub; now I have also assigned static IPs to the wdtvs. This s e e m e d to have solved the problem, but today it’s back with a vengeance; one box claimed that the source had been disconnected and I had to go through the same old dance, browse for source, windows share, etc etc, one more time, even though it worked last night. I have tried rebooting the router to reinitialise everything, but I’m really just about ready to stamp on both these boxes now. When the wdtv live fails, if i go to the network page and test the connection, I usually get a dns server failure. I’m at a loss as to why I need a dns server in this instance as all the devices involved have static IPAs and so don’t need a lookup anyway. But what is perhaps the most infuriating aspect of the whole thing is, nothing changed from both boxes working fine to the present state of affairs. I have been having a certain amount of trouble with the sky hub lately, and so I suspect some kind of link, especially given the dns thing - but waht link? If I need a new router, fine. But I’d like to know what the problem is first.
