WD TV Live network Sharing

First off, this box is amazing. I love it.

I am running the WD TV Live box with a My Book External hooked up to the USB.

I would like to leave the USB hd hooked up to the unit as it seems to be far faster to access content this way than over the network,

However, when I select Share WDTV on your network, it will display it in Network under windows, but I can’t see to access the HD to move content over the network to it.

Any ideas why not?

Nevermind…it randomly started working. :stuck_out_tongue:

I am having similar issues.  I have my home netword computers able to access the shared resources of the WD TV Live, however my work laptop - a domain computer (Win XP Pro) - always attempts to authenticate when accessing the WD and fails to do so thus making access impossible unless I go through one of my workgroup computers.  I tried looking for the article in the previous post in this thread and it is no longer available.  Before upgrading the firmware to the current release I was able to access things just fine while on Release 1.01.17 (1/11/10).  I like the new features of the current firmware, I am just not happy about having to route everything I do through another computer.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

Are you saying that you can’t see the WDTV attached disc in ‘my network places’. What exactly are you attempting to access.

However, when I select Share WDTV on your network, it will display it in Network under windows, but I can’t see to access the HD to move content over the network to it.

I also have 2 WD externals plugged directly into the WDTV Live. I have not updated to the latest firmware for various reasons.

I too can ‘see’ the drives from my computer, but cannot move content from my computer to them for some reason.

It randomly will let me move a small file (like a thumb movie cover), but I can’t figure out what is going on. If I go through the File Manager within WDTV, I can move a movie file, but ever soooo slowly, and only occasionally. If I try to drag it from a folder on the computer to another on the WD… no go.

If I move the drives to my computer and stream the movies through the network using a server (wired) to the WDTV, it works just fine.

I just prefer to have the drives at the WDTV as to not have to run the computer all the time.

I am saying that I can browse to the WD TV Live using:

\WD_TVLive\Disk

However it always prompts me for a password, no combinations work.  It only does this for my Domain connected work laptop.  If I am connected to a workgroup machine on my network, no password is requested and I automatically connect with full control of the volume.

Jlegue I am having the exact same problem as you. Let me know if you managed to fix this ? Although I have created a user which is not a domain user but still WD cannot connect to my PC and gives wrong user/pwd.

I can connect to the WD box from my laptop though !! my windows 7 laptop is connecting perffectly after having me look all around for the issues.

cheers,

Jd
