Hi There,
I am a total newcomer to this and WD products, but having seen the reviews for the media player i recently purchased one and although i have been impressed i am a bit hacked off with one feature that whilst it may seem small is one the main reasons i bought the player. On drunken nights myself and my wife and mates like to watch Youtube and listen to music on it, so the idea of streaming this through the TV and sound system sounded a great idea except that pretty much every video comes up with a message saying “This video is restricted by the video content owner and it is not available on TV connected devices” Can someone please let me why this is happening and how i can sto pit happening. When i installed the unit updated with the latest firmware which i would presume would have rectified this?? It is to the point where by i would consider sending the product back if i cannot get it resolved.
If anyone can give any help or advise i would be really grateful
Yours,
a computing amateur
That message you are seeing is not caused by the WD device. YouTube is responsible for the video restriction. For some reason, a lot of videos are OK to play on your computer, but not on a TV. I know it does not make much sense because you can connect your computer to your TV, but that is what the people that own the content that you are trying to play have decided.
If you have an iPhone, there is an app called Zappo TV that lets you play internet content on your WD device. Otherwise, there is not too much you can do about it.
As Scandy said this is down to youtube. However it may not always be the uploader who sets this flag which stops the video being played on TV devices. If the video has copyrighted music on it or indeed is a music video when the copyright owner can allow it to stay on youtube on the condition that this flag is set (youtube then set the flag automatically). I have a video with a John Lennon recording soundtrack. Youtube have noted this but have allowed me to keep the video and soundtrack but set the flag to stop TV devices playing it. I reset the flag but I noticed that very soon after it changed back.
Its a bit long winded but if you install the flingo bookmark on your PC then you can ‘fling’ any youtube video to the flingo service on the WDTV.
