I have twice downloaded WD My Book Essential complete software w/updates to load onto the ext hdd after formatting it from FAT32 to NTFS. After two downloads, the software, after extracting from .zip, has incomplete attributes and will not execute. Any solutions for software for backing up, beyond Smartware?
If you have a Windows computer you can use the Windows backup software:
Windows 7:

Windows XP:

If you have a Mac, you can use Time machine.

Nice suggestion But smartware is just so simple to use. Ive tried windows backup and still are not sure how to even retreive the bin files that is created.

Did you uninstall SmartWare before you installed the next versions? And if so, did you reboot? If you did those things, there’s a chance that you didn’t get all of the SmartWare folders cleaned out of your computer, and it may be causing issues with your new SmartWare installs.

Thank you for answering. The WD Smartware came originally on the WD My Book Ext hdd. After formatting the drive, I assumed the formatting erased all traces of the original software. I downloaded the software onto my PC initially. This is where the incomplete downloads have occurred.
