WD soft ware cauing huge spikes in my external samsung ssd

Hi,
I recently bought the my passport external hdd and installed the software. Afterwards my other external ssd had massive spikes in the disk usuage even when i wasn’t using it which made it unusable. I uninstalled the software and it returned to normal. Any ideas of why it did this?
