WD Smartware not working. Windows is searching for a solution

My 1TB My Book Essential worked fine to backup my data (Windows XP). Was working ok to retrieve my data (after installing Windows 7). Then one day I turned on the computer and I couldn’t access the drive. My Computer recognised the G: drive (WD muilt in software and manuals etc) but not the H: drive (the actual hard drive part of it). Every time I tried to open it I got the message WD Smartware not working. Windows is searching for a solution but no solution was ever found. Tried disconnecting and reconnecting without avail. Tried the forums where the suggestion was made to uninstall the WD Smartware software and reinstall.Treid that nad now I get even less! When I plug in the USB it doesnt even recognise the drive. I’ve had it less than 2 weeks. Expensive piece of junk…

1.  Is is spinning (listen to the drive)?

2.  Do you see the drive in Device manager under Disk?

3.  Do you see the drive in Disk Management?  Is it partition & formatted?
