WD Smartware locking up the computer

WD My Passport Ultra

A few days ago I erased the drive with the utilities tool to start fresh. The drive firmware was updated as well. Initially, WD Smartware did not find the unit even though ejecting was an option. and the drive did not appear in Windows Explorer. I re-installed WD Smartare. WD Smartware now stops and locks up the computer during the backup process. The Smartware screen turns white. Sometimes when I try to “End Process” in Windows Task Manager, it restarts, but still does not complete the backup before locking up again. I bought the unit new at Best Buy I think October 2014.

Suggestions, fixes, options? Thank you.

Try to reinstall the software on the computer again to see if it perhaps was a corrupt installation.
