Just a headsup to others that Smartware’s WDBackupEngine.exe program was causing terrible disk performance problems on my Windows8 machine. I discovered it by killing the process and disk performance returned to normal. I’ve uninstalled Smartware on all my machines. SmartWare is riddled with problems and should not be relied upon for backups. On my Windows7 machine I had the problem reported elsewhere of continuous backup not working.
