WD SmartWare - Cannot access Backup and Restore options

WD My Book Elite 1TB (latest firmware installed less than a week ago)

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

WD SmartWare 1.5.4.5

WD SmartWare software has stopped recognizing the drive. Backup and Restore options as well as access to drive settings are grayed out/cannot be clicked. Started less than 24 hours ago. Rebooted system, disconnected and reconnected drive. No impact. Uninstalled and reinstalled WD SmartWare software. Rebooted system, issue resolved. Wiped drive to do new backup, still no issue. Went to start download before bed and options have again been grayed out. Rebooted system, disconnected and reconnected drive, no impact.

Computer recognizes and allows access to the drive. When drive is unplugged and then reconnected Windows will immediately recognize the drive.

How can this be corrected?

In this version, 1.5.4.5, you need to click in the My Book icon, from the Home Tab in SmartWare, after this Backup, Retrieve and Drive Settings should become available.
