WD Sentinal DX4000 Invalid Config

first off I think that is the 3rd step recover (log) You need to do recreate first the middle step

Select disk 2 but I see you say you tube did that  clean all 3 drives

No, that is the CREATE STORAGE LOG from step two from the recreate storage option. I recreated the Create Storage Bootable USB and cleaned all 3 disks again and am re-running it again
it usually errors out relatively quickly but so far its still going. Not sure how long it should take to create storage for 3 -3Tb discs.

I don’t think it takes long, but post the log again

It’s still running, 3 hours now
 says Initializing OK Loading Recovery

I don’t know how to tell you this but that is the recovery thumb not the recreate. And I just looked at my recovery log and it is like yours.

Maybe your iso download is funky? Did you compare the hash file? Are you making these thumbs or assigning the task to someone else? And I am worried about your date

The date is off because I reset the CMOS by pulling the battery, I wouldn’t think it would prevent my recreate from taking place.

I downloaded the ISO for the DX4000 from a link from another forum. Do you have a different link I can try?

Diskpart
select disk
clean

will erase the drive(s) also. I would suggest you get a new thumb drive if you MD5 Hash matches

bellow is panam 1.7.6.21
C:\Users\Budro\Downloads\PANAM_SvrRecovery_1_7_6_21_.iso:
Verified: Unsigned
File date: 1:53 AM 1/14/2017
MD5: 32031F2454D3510D7CE2BF5891F7D25D
SHA1: EF0E132813182B2202A5FF54180C840BEE44F59E

That appears to be the same file Pan/AM (iso) I downloaded, but will try it to see if I get a different result. But That screen shot is the same one I worked from, selected the bootable USB to recreate the storage first and ran it, which is where I am now. Then on another USB stick I created the bootable recovery image from the 3rd option on the screen, but have yet to get to that point.

WIll see if I get a different result

need to check the hash file.
You have to make a new recreate thumb each time you boot from it. Some file gets erased. Perhaps that was to prevent someone from mistakenly erasing a good box

Here is a link to the last RECOVERY log file from my attempt to create the storage. Recreate Storage Failed is on LCD Screen, I am at a loss.

https://1drv.ms/t/s!AtR4eNv5DjSXjUBDBDcnq7KA7AWM

well from looking at the log it looks like 2 of the drives were cleaned with diskpart and one still had a raid config on it ? Just for giggles, you do have the 3 drives on the left side of the box?
It complains about drive ending in 507 a couple of times.
If you make no progress you might try recreate with just two drives for now and add the 3rd after it gets up
Reckon you could test the drives with this ?

OK, cleaned both drives again, created a new USB drive using the new DL you provided the link to. Booted it up with the new good drives and it finally came through with the STORAGE CREATED message so all seems good there. I booted with the recovery USB image, says recovery started on LCD, not sure how long it should stay that way, but its been like that for about 30 minutes. Suggestions?

Your worker PC has to be connected to the network while the recovery is progressing. You clicked next on your PC when it told you to?

And what does the log file from the recreate step say now?

Thanks for the tip, I did not realize I had closed the program on my PC before it got to the recovery started stage. It’s formatting now. Keeping fingers crossed
thanks for the help and guidance!

Ok, its formatting the drives now, hope to be soon installing the recovery image/os. One question, have you seen a method to use drives other than the limited few listed in the WHITELIST file? I have 2 Western Digital 6Tb RED drives I would like to setup in this thing, but when I tried to edit the WHITELIST and add these drives to it, I was unsuccessful.

thanks

I don’t believe that DX4000 can work with drives bigger than 4TB.

yea, I dunno. I have not messed with the whitelist at all. We are on the 3rd server version since the DX now it’s time to move on

WD has a drive enabler download to use other drives. But I think it is only good for a working box.

I found the drive enabler, I would tend to think it is only good for a working box. I may install it once this thing finishes formatting, which is at less than 20% after 18 hours  and see if I can locate the whitelist and see what it does to it to allow other drives and sizes. I am afraid 4tb may be the max sized this sentinel will support which would be disappointing, but not surprising considering WD is introducing larger NAS drives, but I am sure they would rather you buy a new WD device.

I am leaning toward the MyCloudPro as my next option, it seems more friendly toward setup and restore, no windows updates to deal with. What I don’t see included with it is a backup solution to load on each computer like the sentinel. Also, I have read where local file transfers can be slow on the mycloud if you don’t use the mycloud service, still trying to see if this is a bug or if it is true.

App support is somewhat lacking at this point for the device, for Plex, Dropbox, etc. Apps are available, but apparently don’t work too well and WD throws their hands up over the apps and sends you back to the developer.

Thoughts?

Windows Server any version or role with “Essentials” in the name is the only thing that does client backups.

Thecus made/makes a box with Windows Server 2012R2 Essentials. Keep an eye on EBay or New Egg for bargains.
