WD Scorpio Blue not recognized by BIOS

I have an older Dell Inspiron 1720 that I am trying to clean up for a son to use. There are 2 HDD bays and Bay 1 has the original 160 MB SATA drive. I have a 14 year old WD Scorpio Blue 750 GB SATA (WD7500BPVT) drive that I installed in Bay 2 for extra storage space. But when the system is booted, the BIOS does not recognize the drive. Also, the added drive is wiping out recognition of the first drive and so the system will not boot at all. When the Scorpio is removed, the first drive is recognized and the system boots fine.

What could be the problem. I was expecting Bay 1 to remain as the bootable C: drive and Bay 2 to be the D: drive that could be formatted and partitioned. Ideas?
