WD Repair software/ USB, can you use it that way

I have a laptop of my nieces which is having problems. Since WD software isn’t available on dos or at the command prompt. I have taken it out and hooked it up the usb port on my other laptop. Is it possible to install the wd software on that laptop and scan the HD that is on the USB port? Thanks Bruce

Hi, welcome to the community.

Which software are you talking about? If you are talking about the WD Data Life Guard, it should recognize the hard drive on the USB as long as the enclosure that you are using doesn’t mask it.

Yes, that would be the software thanks. When I hook it up, it shows the WD as the D drive. I wasn’t sure if it would allow me to pick the particular drive (which is D in this case) or automatically check the D. Thanks
