When the load cycle issue appeared with some of the Green models under Linux , WD did not really support the Linux community only offering a windows binary to fix.
Now the RED series is aimed at NASs (presumable the majority of which wun some flavour of Linux), Has WD’s position changed at all regarding Linux support. It does not seem so according to http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/987/
