WD Red Hard Drive - Acronis WD Software

Hi, I’m new to this forum so please excuse any mistakes I make.

I have a 500GB hdd in my computer at present which is becoming full.

I have purchased a 3TB hdd to replace it.

I am running Windows 7, 32 bit

I appreciate that windows 7 can normally only handle 2TB hdd.

I have used WD Acronis to clone the original HDD onto the new one both with the drive mounted internally and later with it mounted in a caddy.

The software appears to work correctly and produced in both cases a cloned drive.

However when I substitute the new hdd for the existing one it will not load Windows.

It starts to load and gets part way through loading the Wndows 7,4 colour logo but then stops and the computer restarts.

The screen says startup fault which it will cure but then gets into a continuous loop.

I would be grateful for any assistance.

Regards

Paul

Hi, welcome to the WD community.

By any chance do you know if you motherboard is UEFI capable? If it is, try disabling it.

Hi,Thanks for your advice.

The motherboard is not UEFI capable.

I have tried using the WD Acronis True Image to try and clone 2 separate hard drives and had the same result as I described.

I have now used the Free download of Macrium Reflect and it has worked perfectly first time and the drive is in the computer I am now using.

I would recommend it as being very effective.

Many thanks for your help.

Regards

Paul
