INVALID_ID_FIELD: invalid userId

Using the site password reset:

https://support.wdc.com/support/accountpassword.aspx

and using the associated email link results in the following errors and inability to access the WD Portal site:

Root element is missing.Duplicate Username.
The username already exists in this or another Salesforce organization. Usernames must be unique across all Salesforce organizations. To resolve, use a different username (it doesn’t need to match the user’s email address).

SUBMIT
INVALID_ID_FIELD: invalid userId
