WD portable hard drives

I have two Western Digital Hard Drives. One is used as back up support for my computer.(One Terabite) The second one is an older HDD that I want to use it to back up my photos seperately. The second HDD is connected and it shows in the “Safely Remove Hardware”, however it will not allocated a Drive Letter when installed. This is on a Windows 7 computer.

I also have a computer operating with win 8.1. This computer can and does create a seperate drive letter.

I am sure there is a simple answer to this issue. Thanks Mike

Hi, welcome to the WD Community.

Check under disk management, and make sure that the drive is online and asign a drive letter to it.

Link to disk management.
