WD Passport wont create drive letter anymore - Vista

For some reason Vista wont create a drive letter anymore. But my Netbook which contains Win 7 can read the WD passport just fine.  I use these WD passports for backup only, its a bit disconcerting, if I can’t use them to recover or read the data, from one OS to another. Whats going one here?

I’m having the same problem with XP.  I disconnected the external hd for a while and then reconnected.  I was able to access the stored data for a short time and then the problem resumed.

I would make sure that you have your data backed up on those drives, before continuing.  Maybe you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this. You can do so either by phone or email.
