WD Passport ultra not seen as a drive on Windows 7 64

Hi,

Just so you see what is going on : print screen

Everything seems fine. But the drive won’t show ( C, D, E are ssd and sata drives ) . I tried upgrading motheboard drivers, usb drivers. I connected on the front, on the back. I hear the sound windows does when you connect it. You can see I’m able to “remove the device safely” even but can’t actually access it

Not sure what else I can try.

Thanks.

Hello, try to manually add a drive letter. Check the link below for the steps.

How to change the drive letter assignment in Windows 8, 7, Vista, XP or 2000

Allright, this helped.

But it wasn’t “enough”, since in Disk Management my passport device still wouldn’t show.

Going through this forum, I found a similar issue (on Windows 8), where was suggested to use a “drivecleanup” utility to purge all drivers and info from previous usb drives one might have used. After I did that, and another reboot, when I launched again disk management, that time the device was there, I marked it as active and then finally proceeded to set a drive letter.

Now everything is working fine.

Thanks.
