I bought a WD My Passport two months ago and it worked fine on my MacBook Air (2022). But after a recent macOS update, it no longer shows up in Finder. Has anyone else run into this? How do I resolve the “WD My Passport not showing up on Mac” issue?
Thanks!
Just look at the Finder > then Settings > then look at the sidebar and check if “External Disks” is checked.
Also, check Disk Utility to see if the drive is showing or not. If it shows grey, then select it and click Mount or run First Aid.
This usually happens when macOS updates tweak how external drives are recognized, especially if there’s a driver involved.
In most cases it will be visible in the Disk Utility.
Sor, first, open Disk Utility (from Spotlight) and check if the drive shows up there , if it does, try mounting it manually. If it doesn’t show at all, test the drive with another cable or USB port, preferably without a hub. Also, check if “External Disks” is enabled under Finder > Settings > Sidebar.
If you’re using WD Security or WD Discovery software, try reinstalling or updating it, since older versions can break after macOS updates. Let me know what you see in Disk Utility, and that’ll tell us the next move.
Before you updated, did you happen to use Time Machine to back up your Mac? If you did, you can actually restore your system to the previous macOS version from your Time Machine backup, and your WD drive should show up like before.
