I have had this problem for a few years now and and i have never needed to use my external drive till now (Factory reseting my computer and needed to backup all my files). I am able to move files to the HD but ever time i try to move a larger file or a randomly on smaller files the HD will disconect and then reconnect. I have looked up a few solutions online and none have worked. I would love some help trying to figure this out.

Have you tried changing the USB cable? Is the hard drive behaving the same way in other computers?

I have not tried changing the cable and it works fine in other computers.
I have no idea how long this usaly takes to respond but I would still like some help with my problem
if the hard drive is working fine in other computers then try updating the USB drivers for the affected system, or try feeding more power to the USB ports in the Device Manager by disabling the option to save power on every USB root hub.
