WD Passport, Does not connect, constantly hear disconnects

So I have a WD Passport, Its not showing up as connecting, and I don’t hear the connecting sound, but I am constantly, every 5 seconds or so, hearing the disconnecting sound. SOMETIMES The light on the external is blinking, other times it is solid.

I read on one forum to go into the device manager and see if the external is showing up, and it would show up for a moment, then the whole thing would refresh and it would be gone. Over and Over again. So I restarted my computer… but stil no external…

So i ran command prompt as admin, and has it show hidden devices, and then opened disk drives and usb folder to delete light grey areas, restarted the computer, and waited till it was fully loaded, to plug external back in.

When I did that I got the connection sound, but no pop up folders, and when I looked at my computer, all i saw was my regular drives. So I went into device manager again, the passport is showing up, says all drivers are up to date, but still wont run.

I also went into my power options, and made sure to set the usb selective suspension option to disabled.

Some one also said to get the usb 3.0 drivers for vista/xp, but I don’t know where to get them, and I don’t see how that would fix it, seeing as it was working fine a few days ago.

So considering that the light is blinking, I was wondering if its the cord, or since its not indicating its connecting, but constantly disconnecting, if its something else.

Hello,

How is the drive showing on disk management?

Check the link below for information on how to access the disk management.

How to access Disk Management in Windows XP, Vista, 7 or 8 to manage hard drives

Also as a troubleshooting step, you may try using a different USB cable and testing the drive on a Desktop computer connecting the drive to the back USB port of the computer since it might be a power issue.
