WD Netcenter no connection with private volume on Windows 7 computer

Hi,

I can acces the private volume on my WD netcenter from any computer in my network as long as they run on W2K or XP. I recently bought one with windows 7. My password is not accepted.

Any idea? Thanks in advance

Wait, you are talking about the WD Netcenter?

If this is the case, this drive is not Windows 7 compatible…

Of course the issue is not compatibility! we are talking about accessing a network share therefore the only issue is protocol.

Windows 7 is of course capable of using whatever old protocol your XP/W2K is using it is just not enabled by default.

Windows Vista/7 uses NTLM v2, the netcenter uses LM or NTLM and this is easily changed in windows.

Run “secpol.msc”

Expand Local Policies → Security Options

Find “Network security: LAN Manager authentication level”

Double click and change to “Send LM and NTLM – use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated”

If you are still asked for a username “guest” will now work.
