WD My Passport 1TB. wdbbep0010bbk-01. Formattted NTFS. I’ve been using it to move files bewteen a Vista Business +SP2 machine and a Win7 Pro + SP1 machine. It’s just over a year old and has been working fine.
Last week, I try moving a large file from the Vista PC to the Passport, a VMware image of about 50 GB. I’ve done this a number of times before, I know it will take a while, I let it sit. I come back a couple hours later. It hasn’t moved the file off the vista machine, but a bunch of small files are being created on the passport. I cancel the move, and it takes what seems like forever to cancel. I delete all the small files that were created.
NOW, accessing any file on the passport from any machine - not just this Vista machine but any win7 or win8 machine - takes forever. The files and folders seem to all be there, but if I click on a folder it takes several minutes to open a folder. If I click on a file it sits there for 5 or 10 minutes before opening the file… but once it finally opens it opens fine.
I ran chkdsk. No Errors.
I’m not sure what to do next.
