WD MyPassport on MacOS Weird Problem--Everything Disappears Until HD Ejected and Reconnected

Hi all, I have a weird issue that’s happened to two of the same MyPassport hard drives so far.

When I first connect the hard drive, all my files are there. When I leave the hard drive connected to my Mackbook Pro for a while, the content doesn’t show up and I can’t access the files. When I eject and reconnect the hard drive the files are there again. Also, when I eject I get an error message that the drive is busy and I’m asked if I want to force eject.

This issue hasn’t happened with my other WD hard drives, just the passports.

Thanks for your help.

Hi trb,

Maybe you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this.

Get rid of all the WD software on your Mac, problem solved! Had the same issue and notified WD of this workaround.

Thanks, I took your advice and removed the WD software and so far I haven’t had anymore issues. All my files show up!

You’re welcome. I think WD should put a warning on the website that this software is flawed. They have been notified by me a few weeks ago.
