FTP & MyCloud – Step-by-Step Setup Guide
Introduction
Hello everyone,
Here’s a friendly guide to help you set up
your own FTP server (File Transfer Protocol)
at home, using your Freebox (or similar router),
a MyCloud network drive, and a custom domain name.
The goal:
Access your files remotely.
Use dynamic DNS to reach your server.
Securely configure your router, storage, and firewall.
-
Advanced Login to Your Freebox
Open your FreeboxOS (or router admin page).
Log in with your administrator credentials.
If you are logged out, simply reconnect and re-enter your password.
Always copy and paste your password carefully
into a text editor first to avoid typing mistakes.
From now on, you will log in with this password.
To change it later, repeat the same process. -
Dynamic DNS Configuration
Go to: Settings ; Dynamic DNS.
DynDNS example:
Username = the email address linked to your domain name provider.
Password = the password for that account.
Hostname = your registered domain
(example:yourdomain.com).
No-IP example:
Username = another valid email address.
Password = account password.
Hostname =yourbox.yourdomain.net
(points to your public IP).
Tip: check your current public IP at
https://www.whatismyip.com. -
Network & Local Server Address
Right-click your server machine → Properties >
Network Connections to find its local IP address.
In FreeboxOS (or router settings), configure your router/DHCP:
Set a static IP for your server.
Add port forwarding rules
(e.g. FTP ports 21, passive ports range). -
MyCloud Drive Setup
In FreeboxOS → Windows Sharing,
set the username the same as yourMyCloud.com account.
Use the same password as on MyCloud.com.
Make sure SMB1.0/CIFS support is enabled on Windows:Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features. Click Turn Windows features on or off. Enable SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support (Client + Server). Uncheck Automatic Removal. -
FileZilla Server Configuration
Download and install
FileZilla Server.
Local IP of your machine: e.g.192.168.0.190.
FTP connection format:ftp://username:password@yourdomain.com``:port
User & Group Settings
Virtual Path = /YourFTPFolder
Native Path = \YourNetworkDrive\Folder
Important: set your drive as read-only if you want protection. -
Windows Firewall Rules
Open Windows Defender Firewall (Advanced Settings).
Click New Rule → Custom.
Apply to All Programs, Any Protocol, Any IP.
Choose Allow the connection.
Apply to Private / Public / Domain.
Name it clearly (e.g. MyCloud-Inbound).
Repeat for Outbound rules.
Conclusion
An internet connection with a router (like Freebox).
A domain name (Freebox or external provider).
A configured MyCloud storage.
FileZilla Server + firewall rules.
