Have 2 pcs of WD MyBook Mirror Edition 2TB…
Purchased 4 pcs of 4TB green thinking that I can upgrade them to 8TB.
Too late I realised that this is not possible.
I have a question: Is it at least a possible that I can use enclosure with just one 4TB drive inside, and one bay empty.
S/N is [Deleted] and [Deleted]
I would like to spare the the good housings. Othervise I will have have to modify them or buy the new ones…
Thank
Alex
Hello applicat,
I’m afraid that you wont be able to do that since the enclosure is design to work with two drives.
Tahnks for Your question but actually I managed to partially resolve the problem.
I can explain so at least you have idea that this is possible.
There are 2 solutions:

SOLUTION FOR ONE 4TB Green in enclosure::
-
I uninstalled WD manager and put 4TB Green in bay B.
-
At first disk didnt show. I switch the disk Off and then On using button on enclosure
-
Disk was on desktop and works wiathout issues
So I spare the housing and I m using it with just one 4TB drive
Note: This is also possible with 4TB green in bay A, but you cant park the disk since it is internally waiting for disk B.
ALSO there is another solution that I expect it will work and I can play with this today (some people managed to similar…) which enables 6TB (possibly( i.e. 2 x 4TB)
I.e. put 1TB in bay A, put 4TB prvioslly format with one 1TB partition and in bay B.
WD will mirror the content of disk A to disk B.
Uninstall WD manager
Put 4TB in drive A and using IPartition extend that partition to 4TB
Put another 4TB in slot B…
Not sure if it will work but will let you know…
