Hi, I have a WD MyBook Home 1TB which has started having problems. The drive is approx. half full and I was today unable to access 2 particular folders on the drive, receiving an error ‘corrupted files or folders’.
I ran dskchk on the drive and when I looked again, one of the folders was fixed but the other was gone completely. Luckily, there was nothing too important in the lost folder. I’ve downloaded the WD Data Lifeguard Diag Tool and ran the Quick test. It failed almost immediately with a read test.
“06-Quick Test on drive 2 did not complete! Status code = 07 (Failed read test element), Failure Checkpoint = 97 (Unknown Test) SMART self-test did not complete on drive 2!”
I’m now running the Extended test but it will apparently take 13 hrs or so to complete.
Can anyone offer any advice on what I can do to extend the life of this drive or at least correct any faults it may currently have?
