Hi, I am trying to connect my WD MyBook Essential to my Netgear DGN2200 modem/router ( Netgear DGN2200) to use as a network drive. I have followed the instructions from them and looked everywhere on the internet and they all say to do the same thing. However when I connect the drive to the router, it is not recognized, it’s like it’s not even there. When I go through Netgear Genie, it tells me the router does not support ReadyShare, contrary to their website.
Is there something I am missing ? Something I am supposed to do with the drive itself ?
Thanks for the replies, however I found the answer. The OEM Netgear DGN2200 is supported for the ReadyShare, even with the WD MyBook Essential, HOWEVER because I have a DGN2200 supplied by Optus when I was with them, I found out that Netgear customizes the modem/router for Optus. By customize I mean DISABLE a bucketload of features in the router firmware. This means they show up in the router options, but when you go through the Netgear Genie application, they show as NOT SUPPORTED (pictured). Unfortunately this is not able to be undone by updating the firmware as the regular Netgear firmware will brick the modem and make it unusable…
So I have now purchased an OEM Netgear DGND3700 N600 modem/router and will be using that when it arrives. Thanks again for the replies
