WD MyBook 8TB

I’ve bought MyBook and Passport drives for years.
I use them on our network, but primarily for our TVs.
It seems that every year I run into the same problem: “Don’t have read/write privileges”

I end up having to transfer all the files over to another drive, reformat it, then transfer it all back.
Frustrating and annoying.
I don’t set up any password, I actually reformat it as a clean drive without any of WDs files left so as not to have any ownership issues from my laptops.

I use them between 3 different MacBook Pros, and plan to use each MyBook for a dedicated TV.
The TV is a Samsung QLED that we just bought.
I’m planning to load it with a bunch of video files for the kids, and update the drive monthly with any of our new GoPro footage we create.

Am I doing something wrong?
Drives are stripped of all WD preloaded files and then reformatted without any ownership or passwords.
Appreciate any detailed steps to follow so future use won’t require reformatting over and over.

Thank you
