WD MyBook 3tb USB 3.0 - start backup but no files copy

Hi all - I have a 3 tb MyBook USB 3.0 drive. It was working fine, but I wanted to setup partitions since my computer harddrive is only 750gb, I wanted to have extra storage (after leaving room for a partition large enough to hold 1 backup of my system). I then learned about the issue with partitions over 2tb and was kindly instructed on how to delete the MyBook partitions and convert to GPT. Then I setup one partition, for backups, at 690gb (slightly larger than the maximum amount on my system drive) and opened the rest up to general storage.

Now, when I run the backup software, it says it’s starting, but then proceeds to not transfer any files. I know the drive is operating, and I have unlocked it. I’m not sure what the issue might be. All of the software and firmware is up to date.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi,

WD Smartware will not allow you to select to which partition it will backup, However, It should allow you to see just the first partition on the drive, I recommend that you partition the drive again, making the first partition the backup one.

Thanks for the response. I actually did setup the first partition to be the backup, and I can see that the software is picking the correct partition to do the backup on. Even if they were swapped, I still believe it would be an issue that, when I tell it to backup now, it say it’s starting and then doesn’t move any data (it just reads 0.00kb of x.xgb transferred).
