WD My Passport

My passport has a drive inside of the case part number is WD5000BMVV-11A1CSO, it has a USB connection for a cable, the drive is described as having a USB interface. That connection appears to be broken and I cannot communicate with the drive. The drive also has a set of 12 pins (6 pins plus 6 pins) set out not unlike the USB pins on a motherboard can I connect a USB cable to those pins I need to get data from the drive.

The 12-pin header won’t give you SATA access. In any case, even if you were to gain access via SATA, then you would find that the data are hardware encrypted, whether or not you have used a password. The Initio INIC-1607E USB-SATA bridge chip handles the encryption.

If the problem is only a damaged USB connection, then the most expedient solution is to solder it to the PCB using 4 wires.
