Backed up an HP Laptop Because It Currently Wasnt Working, Plugged it into my Dell laptop months after so I can format it, This is where things go wrong. I plug it in, and my pc is perfectly fine, Go to file explorer to right click and format the external hard drive, and it says not responding, then it makes windows crash completely, plug hard drive out, bam, windows works again, but problem is that I cannot format it.

Check the unit with an antivirus to see if that’s what’s causing the unit to fail.
Are you able to test the unit on a different computer?
