WD My Passport micro-USB connector smashed

Hi there,

My kid, with enough power applied, totally crashed the micro-USB connector on My Passport 320GB, all its 5 pins twisted and broken. I could not find a clear answer from here: if the connector can be replaced, with a specialist help, can a new connector be soldered to the board with being able to connect and access the drive again as usual? Also, can anyone link the exact type or model of the connector and where to get?

Thank you very much!

V

No, unfortunately is not possible to change the PCB because the drive won’t take a new one. You need to contact a professional data recovery center to extract your information.

I’m not sure about Passport’s boards. This posts explains a bit about the boards http://community.wdc.com/t5/Off-Topic-Discussions/Bridge-Boards/td-p/353839 About the only person that understands them is fzabkar check his posts or send him a PM. Maybe he can help.
