I have a 1TB WD My Passport and up until a few days ago it had been working fine. However, now when I connect it to any computer it says “Drive needs to be formatted” or “Parameter error.” I know that formatting the drive will erase all of the data and I need to avoid that if at all possible. When I plug the drive into my television, it will still open and I can access my movies and music. Can someone tell me if this can be fixed or inform me as to what I need to do so that I can save my data? I appreciate any suggestions.

As per your description the drive seems the be corrupt. You can use a data recovery software such as Recuva or Photorec to retrieve your information. At the end you will need to format your drive.
