WD My Passport external drive 07A8

OS is Windows 8, 64bit

I have a WD my passport external drive, on connecting to USB port, it is recognized under “remove media” and it can be seen on Disc Management pane, but it is listed as Disc 1, Type;Unknown and Status; Not initialized. The drivers are all installed and it physically connects and seems to function normally.

But I can’t see the drive on explorer or access the data thru Disc Management. If you try to initialize it or change it to online you get I/O device error.

I need to recover the data and repair the drive if possible, is there a solution?

You can try using another USB cable and connecting the hard drive to another computer. To rule out any possible hardware damage you can also try running a DLG test.
