WD My Cloud - Web GUI unreachable after firmware update

Hello,
I updated the firmware to 04.05.00-334 version onto a WD My Cloud 4TB (P/N WDBCTL0040HWT):

WDMyCloud:~# cat /etc/version
04.05.00-334
WDMyCloud:~# uname -a
Linux WDMyCloud 3.2.26 #1 SMP Thu Jul 9 11:14:15 PDT 2015 wd-2.4-rel armv7l GNU/Linux
WDMyCloud:~#

After reboot the Web GUI at URL https://wdmycloud.local/UI/ display in a rapid sequence:

  1. WD My Cloud access in progress…
  2. Authentication attempt in progress…
  3. a blank page with -WD MyCloud- image only (same behaviour at insecure URL http://wdmycloud.local/UI/ or using IP address instead of FQDN)

Fortunately user data are still accessible via SMB protocol and I can login to console by ssh.

What could I do to restore the correct Web GUI to manage the NAS?

Thanks in advance.

wdmycloud.local should not be your FQDN unless you used “local” as the domain name for your local/lan network, which is NOT a good idea. See “.local” at wikipedia for an explanation. mDNS/zero-config/avahi/Bonjour use .local for the multicast suffix (IP 224.0.0.251), other than maybe in the Windows world. On your router, you should set your local domain name to something like “lan” or “home”. I am able to access my NAS by http OR https using wdmycloud.local, wdmycloud.lan, or the IP address.

Clear cookies and cache, Its trying to give you the Terms of Service page I think? If all else fails do a soft reset hold the button on the back for 10 seconds and if that fails do a hard reset which just resets system settings to factory. unplug, plug in while holding reset button 40 secs, your /data is safe as the these resets dont delete anything just restores settings…
