WD My Cloud Connection Issues

Hi all,
For the past week I’ve been in contact with a technician with WD to resolve the issue that I’m having but they haven’t been able to help entirely fix it, just patch the issue so to speak. This all happened out of the blue without any of my doing. The issue first started in October with the remote access disabling itself. November came along and My Cloud basically became inaccessible through my network, wasn’t even able to access the Dashboard. The device shows up in Finder, but everytime I try to access it, it fails. The WD technician made me power cycle, then reset the settings with the reset button but it didn’t help. He then made me connect the Ethernet cable from My Cloud directly to my computer and I was able to finally access My Cloud and all my files. I was also able to connect to my dashboard And found that the device updated itself to the latest firmware but the issue remains. After I told him I was able to access it, long story short I was left on my own.
So now I turn to this forum. Has anyone experienced this issue and was able to fix it? Any advice?

Hello - as a heavy duty user, my UI also disappears from the network together with Remote Access, sometimes the samba shares disappear too.

Fortunately, I can still ssh into the NAS, quick debugging learned that apache and smb (both the webserver and samba services) had crashed. Restarting those indicates “process not found”, but fixed the aforementioned symptoms.

Keep in mind that manipulations through ssh are not supported (see all the disclaimers on the forum).

What I’d suggest: start by step 1: if “finder” finds your NAS, can you ping the NAS on the ip shown? Step 2: can you ssh into it? Step 3: can you view the load (“top”)? Then your debugging starts.

Good luck!

After a rough week with college finals, I was about to send an email today so tech support could get back to me with the issue I was having. Before I did I decided to try to give it another shot to see why I couldn’t access MyCloud…the issue has ceased to exist. I’m not sure why but after disconnecting every device that was directly connected to my router, I reconnected MyCloud to the router on its own and found that I was able to access it via my network. I was also able to access my playstation 3 which was also dealing with the same problem, but I had never thought that they were connected. Turns out that what was casuing the problem was having my DVR conneceted to the router as well. As soon as I unplugged it, everything started working properly. Not sure if some of the DVR settings was conflicting with my router, but I’m leaving it as is.

Thought I’d share this in case anyone else was experiencing something similar.
