WD My Cloud Attempting To Authenticate

Hey Everyone,

New here. Just picked up the My Cloud and I have to say out of all the great years of experience with MyBooks, this gets a huge “F”.

I unpackaged and pulled the MyCloud out of the box. I plugged it into my Router (airport extremem base state WPA/WPA Personal) and plugged the power in as well.

Within minutes the drive showed up in my Finder(Mac OS X 10.9.3.).

I cannot connect as I do not know the username or password.

I went to  http://wdmycloud.local/ and I’m stuck at “Attempting To Authenticate”

I checked the WD My Setup App and the drive shows with a 169.254.4.168

The drive will not allow me to set it up as it cnnot detect the firmware.

Please Help!

It should not yet have a username or password if you haven’t set it up yet.  

169.254.x.x shows that the drive was unable to get an IP address via DHCP from your router.   (Presuming, of course, that you were expecting it to, then you need to check for issues with your network or router.
