I would like to connect an external USB HD with Journaled (MAC) Format to my WD My Cloud. I activated in the setup the USB port. I find the external disk but the problem is that i can not see the content. The HD has a size of 2 TB and I only see xxx MB.
How is it possible to see the content? Or is this not possible due to the Journaled MAC format? How can I solve this problem?
If one reads the My Cloud User Manual (http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/?id=439&type=25) they’d see the following formats are supported for external USB hard drives. If the drive is in a different or unsupported format it may not be properly mounted (or even seen) by the My Cloud.
The My Cloud device supports the following formats for externally attached USB drives:
FAT32
NTFS (read and write capability)
HFS+J
Ext2, Ext3/Ext4
XFS
Further in certain cases a drive that is supported by the My Cloud fails to be properly mounted by the My Cloud firmware. One can search for the numerous prior threads that discuss this strange issue. For some of us, me included, who experienced this issue of the My Cloud not mounting the USB drive, deleting all partitions on the USB drive, then repartitioning (with one single partition) and reformatting the drive (in a supported format) tends to solve the problem.
not entirely true. my MyCloud v2 running the latest FW now refuses to see my seagate 4tb this only happened after the FW update it did a few days back that the UI browser interface said failed. But in fact completed. But before the current FW 2.31.195 my external Seagate that I use to use on my MyCloud v1 using NTFS is not detected.
Ohh I forgot to say this drive worked before the latest FW but only if I used a Mac to format it to the default Mac OS Extended ( Journaled ). is that weird or what? Now its just not picked up with Mac format or a FULL clean wipe of the drive and NTFS or Mac OS Extended ( Journaled ) I have a WD 6TB Elements Desktop Hard Drive - USB 3.0 coming today. I get nervous not having a backup. PS: the drive is picked up on a Mac or windows 10 laptop. This is so weird. Unless Western digital is getting picky about using a Seagate. I dont even leave it running 24/7. I do a month to month backup then eject. When I need to use it again I just unplug the non spinning external seagate and plug it back in and WaLA it use to work 100% now nothing
edit I have no idea what’s going on I downloaded the 2.31.204 FW and it gave me an update error. I forget what version I was running before 2.31.195 . Im not 100% sure if it updated or not. Im so confused at this point. If I try to update I get an error “Unable to connect to the firmware update server. Please check the network connection and try again”
im worried to try a manual update by using the “manual update” in settings. Maybe its a safari thing. I should try on windows PC maybe? again very confused and frustrated with WD on this matter. This V2 is just as buggy as my v1 4tb. Im not bashing WD but why is every thing I do a problem even migrating the data into the v2 from the v1 backup was a disaster. Weird shares all over the new v2. Noting ever works as advertised .
