WD My book will not connect to WD TV

Hi, I have been using that WD My book 1TB Harddisk in connection with two different WD TV-Boxes - no problem. Now I put some new videos on that harddisk and both boxes do not recognize that harddisk any more, no matter how I connect it: plugged in before switching on or on the fly; I deleted the folder “.wdtv” from the harddisk, so the content had to be read anew - no result. Has anyone an idea, what I could do? (Another harddisk - intenso - works fine and is treated the right way, after having put some more videos on …)

Hello,

Make sure the drive is plugged in directly into a wall outlet to discard a possible power issue. Also try replacing the USB cable.

Thanks for the advice, but it didn’t work. Two identical WDTV-boxes, different plugs, excanged USB-cable - no success.

Connecting the WD Book to the WDTV shows on the screen  something like “Connecting to USB-Device …”, then stops. With a INTENSO-Harddisk after the first message “Connecting to USB-Device …” the second message comes: “Reading Media-Library …” and then I get the icon for the Harddisk. (Messages translated from German). It must be a problem of the WD Book …

Hi, Try connecting the drive to a Windows computer then, enable show hidden files and folders, once thats done, you should see a hidden folder on the My Book called “.wdtv” delete this folder, safely remove the drive from the computer and then connect to the WD TV, let the media library compile and once is done the drive should show.

You can also try to disable the Media Library option on the media player.

Sucess! I did a complete search for anything with the extension “wd_tv” and found several data. I deleted them all, connected the WD My book to the WDTV box and - surprise! - it started to prepare the Media Library! Now it works again! Thank you very much for your advice!

I’m glad to read that it fixed the issue.

Remember to accept the post as a solution and give kudos to users if they helped.

I would love to give you the kudo you deserve but I do not know how … there is no kudo-button I could click on.

What else do I have to do to accept your post as a solution than to write “Sucess”? Somehow I feel a little bit stupid …

Now I have found the solution: I have to be logged in, so that the kudo-button works! You never stop learning …

Thank you very much for the Kudo and the Accepted solution :smileyvery-happy: Glad I was able to help.
