WD my book live duo 4TB - Installation requires windows driver not found on my laptop

Hi there,

I am close to giving up…

Have bought the WD couple of days ago and can’t connect to it.

I have checked all of the forum information.

My configuration is:

  • Fritz!Box 7270 router (where the WD is connected to via LAN).

  • WLAN network (UPnP switched on), all PCs/laptops connected via WLAN.

  • Three laptops available (Win XP SP 3, Windows Vista, Windows 7 Professional)

The only laptop detecting the WD in the network is the Vista one after having installed a specific windows driver and directly connected via LAN to the WD.

I can access the WD via the web interface from all the machines, but the XP and Win7 ones don’t install a driver and the Setup software thus does not detect the WD. I have no information which driver to download as the support page informs me the “internal driver” is being used for the WD.

I’m lost and have posted a support request two weeks ago - no response.

Any idea what to do?

Thank you for your help,

Reinhard

Have you tried connecting the other laptops. PC to the LAN?

Do you know the IP address of the drive?

Yes, I did.

All of them fail, except the Vista one (after having installed the driver…)

Yes, I have found it in the router’s web interface.

As I said, I can connect via the web interface to the drive, but can’t make it work using the installation CD as teh laptops (except the Vista one) don’t install the driver…

I have never installed *any* drivers.

There is NO need to install drivers to use the Web UI.

You’re right - not for accessing teh Web UI, but if you want to make use of the WD software (e.g. SmartWare) you have to run through a setup - here I fail due to missing driver support.

The WD does NOT appear as a mappable drive…

OK, I’ve just decided to send it back…
