I originally installed my WD MY BOOK 3 TB on a computer runnin xp pro and it did fine. Then I moved it to a new computer running windows 8 pro 64 and it lights up and files shows in file explorer but it does not seem to backup anything on the win 8 computer. I don’t want to reformat the drive and loose all the files from the xp backup. Any ideas? Thanks.
Look in Disk Management and see what it says about the drive.

healthy primary partitionHow are you backing up with software or manually? If you are using software is it compatible with Windows 8? Can you simply copy and paste to the drive? It might be an issue with permissions. Find the drive right click and go into properties and give full permission to everybody. After XP permissions and ownership got complicated.

Everything is checked except special permissions and win 8 won’t let me check/add it. I had to do nothing for it to work with xp, just plug it in and go.
I tried the beta of Windows 8 but didn’t get that involved. It might be some setting in the BIOS. Try posting at a Windows 8 forum this one is friendly http://windowsforum.com/ Windows 8 added secure boot and other things I don’t know much about.

Ok, thanks for your help.
