My External HD isn’t opening on my new laptop, yet it will open for my MacBook Pro Early 2008 laptop. It might say it’s in according to the Devices and Printers window in my Lenovo, but it’s not opening as a folder with the contents that are there.
A drive formatted for Mac isn’t readable on Windows.

Is there a way to reformat it to work for Windows?
Yes, there is a possible way. It’s generally very easy to do.
As I don’t own a mac, it would be hard for me to try to attempt to help you through the process…
If you reformat it it will wipe out the data on it. I’m not that sure with Windows 8 but ti should be in Disk Management. Or use a third party tool.

Looks like i have to get a new External HD
My 500gb WD is near full and I’ll need to transfer my files to a new spot in order to reformat the old WD. I’ll just make sure to reformat the new one from the get go to be MS-DOS (FAT), then I’ll transfer the folders from the old External to the new external, and THEN reformat the old WD to MS-DOS (FAT)
good plan?
