WD My Book Essential 2000GB, USB 3.0, error during Data Lifeguard Diagnostic test

Hi,

my new WD My Book Essential 2000GB, USB 3.0, connected via a sharkoon PCIe controller at USB 3.0 seems to be defective: The Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows 1.22  brings up the following error code after 7sec quick test.

06-Quick Test on drive 5 did not complete! Status code = 07 (Failed read test element), Failure Checkpoint = 97 (Unknown Test) SMART self-test did not complete on drive 5!

I tried two computers, one another with usb 2.0 but on every system occurs the same error. I didn’t noticed some defects during normal use. the extended test will be done in 5hours and i will post the results here.

Is this drive damaged and needs to be replaced? - it’s 2 hours old…

regards

ulli

I think your drive is defective. Try to contact WD for replacement.
