The new My Book Duo raid has a built in 40 or 50mm fan but it will not turn on unti the RED drives hit 59C.
Although in theory they can reach 70C for those who would like their box to stay on 24/7 and have active cooling for longevity there would need to be software which is user adjustable.
It is possible software might not help if it’s a temperature probe attached to the chassis.
Unless the built in fan is complete junk [sleeve bearings] it should outlast the 2 year warranty.
I like control over my hardware to adjust to my needs and liking.
